UPDATE: The Yogurt Shop Murders

A state government insider who requests anonymity informs me that the controversy over Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg’s DWI conviction is part of a much larger, so far unreported story that connects to Austin’s most notorious “cold case,” the 1991 yogurt shop murders.
For 40 years, my source tells me, the DA’s office has been under the control of a criminal syndicate that has used the office to cover up various schemes, including insurance and investor fraud, and murders related to these schemes. (See my 2000 article, “The Yogurt Shop Murders.”) This syndicate is also a powerful force within the Texas Democratic Party, and has used the Public Integrity Unit of the DA’s office against its political enemies in the Republican Party.
